Yesenia’s Transformation: Courage and Mental Health

Once upon a time… there was Yesenia, a Latina woman, a mom, sensitive since childhood. She always had the ability to feel deeply and dream of helping others, even before finding a space of community.

Every day… she tried to manage everything being a mom, wife, and woman entailed in a country far from her family. Though she carried moments of sadness and insecurity, her strength was in moving forward, learning to listen, and keeping her dreams of well-being alive.

But one day… one of her children was diagnosed with attention deficit, and during the family therapy process, Yesi discovered something crucial: she also needed that space. Courageously, she said, “Me first,” and began caring for her mental health through therapy. She realized that being well for herself also meant being well for her family.

With determination… she continued seeking resources and found Rosa Es Rojo (today SuperVive). In SuperVive programs, she encountered concepts like “healthy emotions” and “positive thinking,” and they resonated deeply in her heart. She felt she had found a place where she could keep growing and connecting with other women.

Until finally… she transformed her perspective: taking care of her mental health wasn’t selfish—it was self-love and an act of love for her family. SuperVive sessions became a space to strengthen habits, share, and learn. Over time, Yesi also became a SuperVive ambassador, inspiring more women to care for themselves.

And ever since… she has known that mental health is a journey, not a destination. Today, she lives with gratitude, new habits, patience, and confidence. Even her children remind her to take deep breaths in difficult moments—a reflection of what they have learned from her.

Through her story, Yesi reminds us that asking for help is not a weakness, but an act of courage. By saying “Me first,” she teaches her family and our community that caring for oneself is the foundation for loving and serving others.
