Creating Positive Health Communities for Hispanic Women and Their Families

OUR MISSION

SuperVive provides health and wellness education to Hispanic women and their families in the United States, creating Positive Health Communities where accessible, culturally relevant chronic disease prevention programs are at the center.

We use four pillars to drive equitable change in whole-person health behaviors: Nutrition, Mental Health, Physical Activity, and Empowered Health.

OUR
VISION

SuperVive breaks down income, language, and education barriers that affect the health and well-being of Hispanic women and their families in the United States.

We are leading the Hispanic community toward healthier lives and working to reduce the incidence of chronic diseases among this population.

ROOT CAUSES OF HEALTH INEQUITIES

There are nearly 63M Hispanics in the US (PRC, 2023). When Hispanics do access care, their cultural context and home language are often not considered, entrenching existing health inequities.

We have identified four social determinants of health to accessing quality health care and wellness education  in our communities:

1. LANGUAGE

  • 83% of Spanish-speaking Hispanic adults prioritize healthcare providers who speak Spanish. (Pew Research Center, 2022)

  • 34% of Hispanics who face language barriers rely on family members or friends to interpret. (Urban Institute, 2025)

  • 15% rely on a minor child to interpret. (Urban Institute, 2025)

  • 44% of Hispanic adults associate persistent language and cultural communication barriers with poorer health outcomes. (Urban Institute, 2025)

2. SOCIAL CAPITAL

  • Social isolation increases the risk of premature death. (HHS, 2024)

  • Systemic stressors and fear of deportation contribute to poorer health outcomes among Hispanic immigrant women and to a higher prevalence of chronic disease. (American Immigration Council, 2025)

3. INCOME

  • 17% of Hispanics live in poverty. (KFF, 2024/2025)

  • The poverty rate among Hispanics is approximately twice that of non-Hispanic White Americans. (KFF, 2024/2025)

  • 18% of Hispanics are uninsured, the highest uninsured rate in the country. (CMS, 2024; KFF, 2025)

  • Undocumented workers earn 30% less than their documented peers. (KFF, 2025)

4. CULTURE

  • Nearly 40% of Hispanics avoid seeking medical care due to cultural taboos and stigma associated with chronic disease or mental health. (AHA, 2025)

  • 41% of Hispanic immigrant families live with a constant fear of deportation. (KFF, 2025)

These barriers are causing:

  • 76% of adults in the United States report having at least one chronic condition. (CDC, 2025)

  • 93% of adults age 65 and older report having at least one chronic condition. (CDC, 2025)

  • 45% of the Hispanic population in the United States has obesity. (Alemán et al., 2023)

  • 39% of Hispanic adults in the United States have hypertension. (CDC, 2025)

  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death. (CDC, 2025)

  • Hispanic adults are 52% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than non-Hispanic White adults. (CDC, 2025)

  • 21% of Hispanic adults experienced a mental illness in the past year. (Mental Health America, 2025)

  • Cancer is the second leading cause of death among Hispanics in the United States. (ACS, 2025)

THE GOOD NEWS:

Lifestyle choices and whole health behavioral changes account for 34% of a person's health; 47% depend on SDoH, and the rest is clinical treatments and environment related. (Hood, 2016)

There is POWER in our hands!
